Spinebloom

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This small cactus grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall. It splits at the base to form 6 finger-like stems. Each stem is beige, and is covered in thousands of fine, pastel green, hair-like spines.

It is quick growing, taking 2 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are purple on the underside and brown on the top grow at the top, reappearing once every 3 years. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of 14 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like alcohol.

The cactus's skin is thin, the washed-out yellow flesh is leathery, and the silver sap is thin and causes diarrhea if consumed.

It comes in 44 varieties.
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
