Twistvine Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 29 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, twisting trunk covered in delicate, rough, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the soft wood is pine-coloured.

The numerous branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of small, pleated leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are solid red or pink, with dark grey streaks.

In early spring, it produces thousands of giant, lime blossoms with finger-like petals. They are sturdy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like old shoes.

In early summer it produces small, broad, flat fruit. The rough bright red skin is thick and sweet, and the soft azure flesh is sour and very dry. The beige seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.

It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
