This orange-yellow moss is commonly found blanketing small areas On trees, In rainforests, and In marshes.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches and they are slow to spread and grow, and is extremely strong.
When mature, emerald flame-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early autumn to release thousands of spores.

It can survive a long time without water.
