This colossal bine is a slow growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 983 feet (299.6 meters) and growing as high as 254 feet (77.4 meters).

It takes 49 years for the orange stems to mature, by which point they can have a diameter of 4.5 feet (1.4 meters) and remain soft and fleshy.

The 2 pointed, fuzzy leaves reach up to 1.2 feet (36 cm) in length. They are silver and washed-out orange, and have rounded edges.

During late spring, the bine produces many balls of tiny vivid purple flowers, and during the early summer, after flowering, it produces a modest amount of tiny berries.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
