Waterstem Flower
Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its stem)This small flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its grey stem is wispy, and the miniature, emerald leaves are long, narrow with jagged edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.
A single small flower sits at the end of the stem. The flowers are 8 cm (3.1 inches) wide, with faded purple petals on the lower layer and silver petals decorated with yellow dots on the inner layer. The central disk is brown. The flower head is largely flat with many widely spaced round-tipped petals. They detach easily.
It has a delicate scent that smells like onion, and it has lots of pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
