Clinging Sunflower

This average-sized flower grows up to 11 inches (28 cm) tall. Its yellow stem is wispy, and the miniature, gray-green leaves are thin with jagged edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

2 to 8 giant flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 39 cm (15.4 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of gold. The flower head is shaped like a bowl with 30 tightly layered, narrow petals. They are very delicate.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like rich perfume, and it has very little pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
