Clingshade Fruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 64 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a flexible, wonky trunk covered in paper-thin, knobbly, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is white.

The abundance of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with sparse amounts of large, thin leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are generally copper.

In early spring, it produces thousands of medium-sized, yellow blossoms with 9 shield-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like cotton.

In mid-summer it produces , triangular fruit. The waxy lilac skin is thin and edible when boiled; it is sweet and sour, and the soft indigo flesh is sweet and syrupy. The white seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
