Giant Sequoia

Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized tree grows up to 28 meters (91.9 feet) tall and lives for over 1,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 1989 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in waxy, brown and grey bark, and inside, the dense wood is brown.

The excessive amount of branches trail down to the ground, with dozens of twigs covered with copious amounts of tiny, emerald needles. The needles themselves are light.

In late summer it produces giant, deep green, tough-shelled seeds.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.

It is often home to a particular bird species.
It can flourish even in standing water.
It comes in 68 varieties.
All of it is said to be part of one single, massive plant.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
