Turquoise Spearplant

This modest-sized caudiciform grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall. The wide stem is gray-green, and is covered in brittle yellow spines. The very thick, cream trunk can grow to as much as 18 feet (5.5 meters) in diameter. Its silver branches are short, rigid and upright.

The tattered-edged, spear shaped leaves are solid turquoise or dark yellow, with beige streaks. They are flexible, but detach easily.

It is slow growing, taking 24 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with solid peach petals decorated with cyan lines and a grey central disk grow at the top, reappearing after 8 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 7 petals in raised layers. It has an intense scent that smells like coffee.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the copper flesh is slimy, and the dark yellow sap is thin.
