Mahogany

This short tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 60 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, wonky trunk covered in hard, rough, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the soft wood is pine-coloured.

The extensive patches of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with thick bunches of clammy, miniature, broad, flat leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are found in deep red and dark purple varieties.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of giant, silver blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a weak scent that smells like warm milk.

In late summer it forms large, beige, tough-shelled seeds.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
