Redwood Berry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 16 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in waxy, gray bark, and inside, the soft wood is light brown.

The numerous branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with small bunches of tiny, sickle shaped leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are generally brilliant red.

In early spring, it produces lots of small, dark brown blossoms with 7 shield-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like freshly washed clothes.

In early summer it produces tiny, long, straight fruit. The sticky beige skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy hazel flesh is bitter and very dry. The vibrant yellow seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
