Copperpine

This short tree grows up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) tall and lives for over 2,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 2590 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a stocky, twisting trunk covered in delicate, ridged, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the very hard wood is pine-coloured.

The abundance of branches are short, thin and wispy, covered with handfuls of small, orange-yellow needles. The needles themselves are delicate.

In late summer it produces small, violet aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
