Purplefruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 38 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a thick, slanted trunk covered in wrinkled, light brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is pale brown.
The numerous branches are short and thin and are covered with copious amounts of huge, spear shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are yellow-green with blue tips.
In early spring, it produces thousands of giant, light grey blossoms with fan-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a soft scent that smells like mint.
In late summer it produces tiny, triangular fruit. The rubbery vibrant purple skin is peel-able and inedible, and the crunchy light brown flesh is savoury and very juicy. The orange seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.
The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
