Yellow

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This small cactus grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall. The very thick stem is yellow and subtle red, and is covered in lots of fine, grey, hair-like spines. The wedge-shaped body is copper, and is covered in handfuls of flexible yellow spines.

It is slow growing, taking 38 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with solid lime petals and a black central disk, grow at the top, reappearing once every 6 years. The flower head is largely flat with 47 widely spaced round-tipped petals. It has a fairly strong scent that smells like perfume.

The cactus's skin is delicate, the lilac flesh is rough, and the black sap is thin.

It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is suitable for making paper
