This grey or white moss is commonly found growing in giant clumps On rotten logs, and In heathlands.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. It forms in thick clumps, and is very hardy.
When mature, emerald circular capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release thousands of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.
