Crimson Willow

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 190 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous long and flexible, twisting stems covered in very thick, silky, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.

The branches trail down towards the ground that and are covered with small bunches of miniature, 7 pointed, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in light grey, copper and black varieties, strong and tough and clammy.

In late summer it produces a thick sheet of small, vibrant blue blossoms with spear shaped petals. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like cinnamon.

In midwinter small long, curved fruits ripen. The leathery copper skin is delicate and sweet and salty, and the soft amber flesh is sweet and juicy. The orange seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.
