Copper

This huge fruit tree grows up to 72 feet (21.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 26 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, angular trunk covered in ridged, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the hard wood is pale brown.

The small bunches of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small bunches of giant, slender, pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are brown on the sides and cream at the center.

In early spring, it produces balls of large, gold blossoms with pleated petals. They fall easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like glue.

In mid-summer it produces small, pleated fruit. The rubbery blood red skin is thin and bitter and sour, and the soft brown flesh is spicy and juicy. The yellow seeds are large and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
