Aquamarine Silkbush

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 102 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous narrow, slanted stems covered in silky, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is white.

The branches are short and thick with dozens of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, sickle shaped, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are found in aquamarine, indigo and copper varieties, rigid and waxy.

In early spring it produces thousands of medium-sized, sky blue flowers with asymmetrical petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like fish.
