Violet

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 167 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many very thick, twisting stems covered in fine, rough, yellow-brown bark, and the wood inside is white.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright that and are covered with small amounts of tiny, spear shaped, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are found in violet and copper varieties, strong and tough and smooth.

In early spring it produces large amounts of medium-sized, magenta blossoms with fan-like petals. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like coconut.

In midwinter small slender, 9 pointed fruits ripen. The smooth green skin is tough and sweet and salty, and the crunchy aquamarine flesh is sour and dry. The black seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.
