Peachfern

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 52 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several flexible, straight stems covered in thick, ridged, silver and white bark, and the wood inside is dark brown.

The branches trail down to the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of small, heart-shaped, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are solid peach or gold, with pink streaks, hardy and waxy.

In early summer it produces copious amounts of small, white blossoms with circular petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like cotton.

In early winter tiny cuboid fruits ripen. The smooth hazel skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the soft azure flesh is salty and juicy. The olive seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
