Clinging Hazel

Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This short tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 586 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in very thick, waxy, brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is silver.

The small bunches of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of covered in fine hairs, small, very thick leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are found in hazel, hazel and lilac varieties.

In late summer it forms tiny, pink aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
