Burgundy Leaf Tree

This short tree grows up to 3 meters (9.8 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 297 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in thin, ridged, burgundy bark, and inside, the flexible wood is yellow-brown.

The numerous branches trail down across the ground and are covered with large amounts of leathery, tiny, triangular leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are generally black.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of tiny, amber blossoms with spear shaped petals. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like ashes.

In late summer it forms small, red berries.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
