Magentafern

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 124 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has several very thick, straight stems covered in hard, wrinkled, dark gray bark, and the wood inside is silver.

The branches are short stubs with thousands of twigs that and are covered with small amounts of miniature, finger-like, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either yellow or magenta, with crimson zig-zags, strong and waxy.

It produces a thick sheet of giant, cream flowers with fan-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like pine needles. In early summer it forms smallcaramel aril (seeds with fleshy covers).


It is suitable for making paper
It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
