Copperbell

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This giant caudiciform grows up to 179 feet (54.6 meters) tall. The asymmetrical stem is copper, and is covered in brittle brown spines. It has a straight, thick, yellow trunk atop a round ball of silky, exposed roots. The branches are stumpy and silver and trail down across the ground.

The smooth-edged, long, tapering leaves are found in turquoise, black and blood red varieties. They are tough, but easily come away when pulled.

It is very slow growing, taking 19 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with alternating petals of cyan and yellow, with a crimson central disk grows at the top, reappearing once every 9 years. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of 8 tightly layered, narrow petals. It has a faint scent that smells like grass cuttings.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the orange flesh is rough, and the ashy purple sap is thin.

It commonly grows in large patches.
