Speckled Bark Tree

Tree type: Deciduous (Sheds its leaves in winter)

This large tree grows up to 77 meters (252.6 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 556 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in fine, silky, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the hard wood is burgundy-brown.

The extensive patches of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with large amounts of soft, miniature, needle-like leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are found in pink and gold varieties.

In early spring, it produces lots of giant, cream blossoms with shield-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like freshly washed clothes.

In late summer it forms giant, muted yellow seed pods.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
