Redwood

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 49 feet (14.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 40 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in thin, silky, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the very hard wood is silver.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with handfuls of giant, perforated leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are brown and florescent red.

In early spring, it produces a handful of tiny, light grey blossoms with shield-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like bonfire smoke.

In early winter it produces large, pleated fruit. The fuzzy gold skin is delicate and inedible, and the soft blue flesh is spicy and savoury and syrupy. The yellow seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
