Crimson Lavenderfern

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for around 93 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous thick, angular stems covered in hard, cracked, mahogany-coloured bark, and the wood inside is black with white speckles.

The branches are short, rigid and upright with thousands of twigs that and are covered with small bunches of large, pleated, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are blood red on the sides and dark grey at the center, sturdy and rough.

In late spring it produces thick bunches of small, blue flowers with teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have an intense scent that smells like lavender.
