Magenta

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 31 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, twisting trunk covered in silky, gray bark, and inside, the dense wood is black with white speckles.

The abundance of branches are short stubs and are covered with very large amounts of miniature, thin leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are bronze and grey.

In early spring, it produces thousands of tiny, aquamarine blossoms with fan-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like glue.

In mid-summer it produces , circular fruit. The smooth magenta skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is savoury, and the crunchy brown flesh is sweet and syrupy. The gold seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
