Crimson Pinebloom

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 180 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous knobbly, straight stems covered in thin, cracked, pine-coloured bark, and the wood inside is light brown.

The branches trail down to the ground that and are covered with copious amounts of small, long, tapering, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either copper or blood red, with cream patches, resistant and crispy.

In mid-summer it produces thick bunches of medium-sized, white blossoms with 5 spiral shaped petals. They fall easily and have an intense scent that smells like soap.

In early winter perforated fruits ripen. The sticky yellow skin is tough and spicy, and the slightly crunchy dark grey flesh is savoury and very dry. The white seeds are tiny and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

All of it is said to be part of one single, massive plant.
It is frequently struck by lightning.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
