Indigo Tree

This small tree grows up to 3 meters (9.8 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 557 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in thick, wrinkled, brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is light brown.

The abundance of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of smooth, miniature, wide leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are indigo and grey.

In early spring, it produces clusters of small, gold blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like rich perfume.

In late summer it forms tiny, crimson seed pods.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
