Blackfruit Tree

This giant fruit tree grows up to 60 feet (18.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 26 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, angular trunk covered in very thick, waxy, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very light wood is yellow.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, wispy leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are green and black.

In early spring, it produces several tiny, slate blossoms with long, tapering petals. They are very delicate and have a powerful scent that smells like wet dog.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, fan-like fruit. The soft brown skin is peel-able and sweet, and the very soft crimson flesh is spicy and oily. The black seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
