Magenta

This large shrub grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for around 50 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous knobbly, wonky stems covered in thick, knobbly, brown bark, and the wood inside is pine-coloured.

The branches are very long and thin with dozens of twigs that and are covered with small bunches of huge, wide, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are solid magenta or bronze, with indigo patches, sturdy and rough.

In early summer it produces hundreds of large, azure blossoms with 7 crescent-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have the faintest scent that smells like fruity.

In late autumn tiny oblong fruits ripen. The smooth yellow skin is delicate and inedible, and the very soft crimson flesh is sweet and spicy and sticky. The gold seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.
