Yellowfruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 61 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wonky trunk covered in very thick, ridged, yellow bark, and inside, the very light wood is pine-coloured.

The thin clumps of branches are very short and thin and are covered with small bunches of huge, finger-like leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of yellow-green that gradient shifts to intense green at the top.

In early spring, it produces clusters of large, lilac blossoms with stiff, pointed petals. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like lemon.

In late summer it produces , stiff, pointed fruit. The waxy caramel skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is savoury, and the very soft grey flesh is spicy and salty and sticky. The caramel seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
