Shrub type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)This modest-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 22 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.
It has numerous stocky, twisting stems covered in thin, smooth, yellow-brown bark, and the wood inside is pale yellow.
The branches are tall, rigid and upright with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of huge, needle-like, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are caramel with copper tips, rigid and leathery.
In mid-summer it produces several large, purple blossoms with slender, pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like pineapple.
In late winter wide fruits ripen. The waxy intense purple skin is thick and edible when roasted; it is bitter, and the very soft beige flesh is extremely bitter and very juicy. The gold seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.
The leaves are extremely toxic, and very sour.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
