Waterleaf Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 58 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, crooked trunk covered in smooth, gray bark, and inside, the light wood is mahogany-coloured.

The thick clumps of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with sparse amounts of large, circular leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are beige on the sides and light orange at the center.

In early spring, it produces many clusters of small, black blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like warm cookies.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, pleated fruit. The soft magenta skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is bitter, and the soft beige flesh is sweet and oily. The light grey seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
