Burgundy Flower

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This small flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its emerald stem is thick, and the large, burgundy leaves are very thick with jagged edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Two tiny flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with pink petals and a yellow center. The flower head is largely flat with 37 raised narrow petals. They are hardy.

It has a strong scent that smells like rich perfume, and it has lots of pollen. It is pollinated by insects , but is also visited by a small species of bird.

The grains are bitter, but very healthy and can be used to make numerous baked goods.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
