Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 40 years. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has dozens of sturdy, wavy stems covered in fine, rough, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is pale brown.
The branches are short, rigid and upright with thousands of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of miniature, asymmetrical, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are either aquamarine or pink, with dark red edges, flimsy and clammy.
In late spring it produces a handful of small, sky blue flowers with long, tapering petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have an intensely strong scent that smells like pine needles.
It blooms only at night.
