Climbing Heartbloom

Flower type: Annual (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This small flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its orange stem is very thin and splits into numerous branching stems at the base, and the large, green or pink leaves are fan-like with serrated edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from the base up to about halfway.

Around 50 large flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 2 cm (0.8 inches) wide, with amber petals and a yellow center. The flower head is shaped like a heart made up of many tightly layered, narrow petals. They detach easily.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like lavender, and it has very little pollen, but can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind.

It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
It is very rare outside of a particular area.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
