Copperfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This big fruit tree grows up to 43 feet (13.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 54 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in very thick, ridged, gray bark, and inside, the flexible wood is copper-coloured.

The extensive patches of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of miniature, sickle shaped leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are solid cream or white, with beige lines.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of medium-sized, cyan blossoms with slender, pointed petals. They are very delicate and have a powerful scent that smells like grass cuttings.

In early summer it produces small, long, straight fruit. The rough olive skin is thick and sweet, and the crunchy olive flesh is sour and sticky. The dark brown seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

All of it is said to be part of one single, massive plant.
