It takes 15 months for the green stems to mature, by which point they each have a diameter of 4 inches (10 cm) and are smooth and woody.
The finger-like, smooth leaves reach up to 1.7 feet (51 cm) in length. They are silver with dull orange tips, and have jagged edges.
During late spring, the bine produces a thick sheet of small copper flowers.
