Azure

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized caudiciform grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall. The finger-like stem is azure, and is covered in handfuls of fine, yellow, hair-like spines. The straight, silver trunk can grow to as much as 5 feet (1.5 meters) in diameter at the bottom. Its copper and olive branches are short, thin and wispy and start growing a quarter of the way up the stem.

The sparse amounts of smooth-edged, fan-like leaves are blood red on the edges and bold purple at the center. They are rigid, but detach easily.

It is fast growing, taking 2 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with solid lilac petals decorated with grey lines and a hazel central disk, grow at the top, reappearing once every 6 years. The flower head is made up of 40 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight cup. It has the faintest scent that smells like leather.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the red flesh is rough, and the light brown sap is thin.

It is very rare outside of a particular area.
It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
