Copperfruit

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 37 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, waxy, dark green bark, and inside, the very dense wood is copper-coloured.

The small handful of branches are very long and thin and are covered with very large amounts of miniature, finger-like leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are solid pale red with beige patches.

In early spring, it produces many clusters of medium-sized, aquamarine blossoms with sickle shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like cigarette smoke.

In late autumn it produces small, long, curved fruit. The rough azure skin is delicate and edible when roasted; it is extremely salty, and the slightly crunchy silver flesh is sweet and very juicy. The grey seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
