This emerald moss is commonly found blanketing giant areas On rotten logs, In heathlands, and In marshes.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches and they spread and grow quickly, and is overwhelmingly frail; it burns easily in strong sunlight.
When mature, emerald oval-shaped capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release millions of spores.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is excellent at collecting and storing carbon dioxide
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
