Coniapple

This huge fruit tree grows up to 52 feet (15.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 64 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in thin, wrinkled, dark gray bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale brown-grey.

The numerous branches are short stubs and are covered with thick bunches of small, triangular leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of light grey or indigo that gradient shifts to silver at the top.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of medium-sized, olive blossoms with broad, flat petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like chocolate.

In early autumn it produces small, pleated fruit. The hairy copper skin is stretchy and slightly savoury, and the soft brown flesh is salty and juicy. The light brown seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
