This moss green moss is commonly found growing in small clumps In rainforests, In rainy mountain ranges, and In bogs.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps, and is extremely hardy; it can easily endure being trodden on.
When mature, emerald oblong capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early autumn to release thousands of spores.

It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
The bark, wood and leaves are edible.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
