Copper

This big shrub grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 176 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many stocky, straight stems covered in smooth, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is dark brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright that and are covered with large amounts of giant, spiral, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are black and lime, flexible and clammy.

In early spring it produces a handful of small, red blossoms with circular petals. They are hardy and have the faintest scent that smells like something putrid.

In late autumn tiny triangular fruits ripen. The hairy washed-out red skin is thin and inedible, and the soft grey flesh is sour and oily. The lime seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.
