Bronzefruit

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, crooked trunk covered in ridged, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is silver.

The small handful of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with thick bunches of small, very narrow and elongated leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are amber on the edges and white at the center.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of giant, vivid orange blossoms with many layers of petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like something putrid.

In late autumn it produces , pleated fruit. The soft silver skin is peel-able and inedible, and the slightly crunchy bronze flesh is extremely savoury and juicy. The caramel seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.
