It has a wide, curved trunk covered in very thick, knobbly, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the very hard wood is pale brown-grey.
The small bunches of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of leathery, giant, wide leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are lilac and blue.
In late summer it forms giant, white seed pods.
The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
It can absorb up to 9 times its own weight in water.
