Magenta Willow

This short tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 97 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, wonky trunk covered in waxy, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is white.

The branches are very short and thin and are covered with thick bunches of sticky, small, thin leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are solid magenta with light grey zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of tiny, copper blossoms with long, tapering petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a mildly strong scent that smells like wet dog.

In late summer it forms large, gold, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
