Copper Starflower

This short flower grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. Its yellow-green stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 4 and are very thick and straight, and split into many branching stems three quarters of the way up, and the miniature, copper leaves are triangular with smooth edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

1 to 5 medium-sized flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 4 cm (1.6 inches) wide, with solid silver petals and a vivid red central disk. The flower head is shaped like a star made up of dozens of tightly layered, round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like a damp log, and it has copious amounts of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by some specific types of insect.
